For those who are still in the dark, J Dilla a.k.a Jay Dee, was an American Grammy Nominated record producer who emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. Producing for acts like Slum Village, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Pharcyde, Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, Common and the list can go on and on. Although he passed away in 2006, his legacy remains strong to this day.
Stussy & Stones Throw Records have partnered for Raph Rashid’s classic pic of J Dilla on a limited-edition Stussy Tee. This will be released Feb. 13, 2010 in White and Black, available at stonesthrow.com and Stussy locations.
The photo was taken by Raph Rashid in Dilla’s L.A. dining room-turned-studio, summer 2005, for his book Behind The Beat: Hip-Hop Home Studios.
